NEPA’S 1st Annual LATINO FIESTA will be hosted by the Scranton Municipal Recreation Authority (SMRA). Nay Aug Park is the largest park in Scranton and well known and loved in the community. The park also houses the Nay Aug Gorge, the Everhart Museum, and St. Cats & Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo. Additionally, in its commitment to maintain Nay Aug Park the park for all families of its communities SMRA hopes to soon have an all-inclusive playground at Nay Aug Park. The Butterfly all-inclusive playground will offer an open and safe place that is carefully designed for children of all ages and abilities. It helps to develop physical, cognitive, sensory and social skills while breaking down barriers, both physically and socially. The Butterfly all-inclusive playground will allow social equity to entire families of all ages to enjoy time together.

The event is estimated to attract over 400 people. There will be food vendors representing the different Latino cultures, as well as Latino entertainment, raffles, various kinds of other vendors, and activities and or entertainment for the children. Information and resource literature tents such as health, education, employment, and housing will also be available for the community.

Latinos constitute 16% of the population in Scranton. As diverse as our communities are not many events have been done to honor the Latino culture. The Latino community in Scranton encompasses so many different countries and this is our way of showing respect and unity to our Latino community.

We will be collaborating with two local businesses that are very active in the community; Papi’s Kitchen and La Olla de Dona Carmen. Both businesses are located in Scranton. PA
